Dear Poinciana Citizens,
Summer days have flown by and we are moving forward to a new school year! School supplies, new teachers, new friends, and maybe even a new school. Schools in Osceola County are back in session on Monday, August 20th. Researches overwhelmingly demonstrate that parent involvement in children's learning is positively related to achievement. Let us encourage our children to strive for excellence and promote them toward their highest potential.
We are certainly reaching new heights and growing stronger! Put this date on your calendar; Saturday, September 15th at 11:00 AM and join in the celebration of the Poinciana YMCA's Ribbon-Cutting/Grand Opening! The ceremony will take place right across from the Poinciana Community Center on Walnut Street. This project has been a public/private partnership working together to meet the needs of our community. Our commitment to helping our kids, teens, moms, dads and seniors live healthier lifestyles and more fulfilling lives stands strong. As we achieve wellness goals, we bring the community together. I encourage you to come and celebrate another milestone of this valuable and expanding venture. I look forward to seeing you there!
A very effective and informative meeting was held in June comprising Polk and Osceola Counties Commissioners and County Managers. Together, we are evaluating all challenges and issues affecting our neighborhood for providing prompt and effective solutions.
Roadway projects are currently at various stages of development. Poinciana Boulevard Phase I (Oren Brown Road to Pam Road) is currently under construction and completion is anticipated for December 2007. The design of Phase II (Crescent Lakes Blvd. to US 17-92) shall be complete August 2007 and Phase III (Oren Brown Road to CSX Rail Road) design is 60% complete. Staff is currently reviewing the final plans for Poinciana Parkway (AKA Marigold Avenue) from Cypress Parkway to Peabody Road. Nonetheless, we have made great strives and look forward to bringing this project to completion soon.

As a reminder, the Ninth Judicial Court and County Administration Offices will be closed on Monday, September 3rd in observance of Labor Day. It is a day dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers and has become to be recognized in
the U.S. not only as a celebration, but even more so as the unofficial end of the summer season! Happy Labor Day!
Ken Shipley, Chairman
Commissioner District 3
