Commissioner District 3 - Chairman
Commissioner Ken Shipley was elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 1996. He served as Chairman of the Board in 2000 and 2004, Vice-Chairman in 2006, and is currently serving his third term as Chairman of the Board in 2007.
Ken moved to Osceola County in 1975 as a manager for Sprint. He and his wife, Sharon, reside in Kissimmee and are active volunteers in the community. Ken serves on the Board of Directors for the YMCA, Kissimmee/Osceola Chamber of Commerce, Osceola Regional Area Council, the St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce, Metroplan, Osceola Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees and many others. He was honored by the Osceola County Veterans Council as the 2003 Citizen of the Year, the Caribbean and Floridian Association for his contributions to the community, was awarded as the 1999 Hispanic Council "Amigo of the Year", honored as the 2000 Osceola County Republican of the Year, received the Florida Economic Development Council's Richard L. McLaughlin Award for 2002, added to Sprint's World Wide Diversity Team, and received the Boy Scouts Golden Eagle Scout Award for 2004.
Ken began his career with Sprint in 1963. During his many years with the company, he has served as Assistant Vice-President of Operations, Manager of Engineering, Manager of Accounting and Auditor. Currently, Ken is Sprint's Public Affairs Manager for Orange and Osceola Counties.
Ken and Sharon have three children and seven grandchildren.
