FEMA in conjuction with FCC sent nationwide alert

October 4, 2023

FEMA and the FCC will send out an emergency alert on Wednesday, October 4th at 2:20pm EST. The test will consist of two parts. The Emergency Alert System (EAS) will test all radios and televisions. The Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) will test all consumer cell phones. The text message will be sent in English or Spanish depending on your phone settings. Most mobile phones, TVs, and radios will display or sound the notification that the alert has been sent. The tests are designed to ensure that should the need arise, such as a national/local emergency or severe weather, the alert system will function as designed. In case the test fails or has problems, a backup date is set for October 11th.
